The St. Louis Post-Dispatch asked Winston Calvert for his reaction to a gun protest that involved people openly carrying automatic, military-grade weapons through the St. Louis Zoo. As the paper reported:
“With all of its unanticipated consequences and poor drafting, Amendment 5 has made a dangerous zoo of the state’s gun laws,” St. Louis City Counselor Winston Calvert said in a written statement Monday. “We hope the courts will see the reality of how these laws impact our families.”
Mayor Francis Slay also quoted Winston Calvert on the same topic, saying "Our children should not be treated as pawns in the gun control debate."
