The Week Magazine quoted Winston Calvert on the marriage equality victory, saying "'Marriage equality is now the law of the land in the state of Missouri . . . This decision finally enforces that constitutional guarantee of equality for gay and lesbian couples.'" Calvert was lead attorney in the first case in Missouri to declare that marriage was a fundamental right enjoyed by same-sex couples and different-sex couples.
